I have searched and searched, even searched some more for at least a rough value on this error. I have found a few other earlier dates that seem to have high price tags on all of them. Are Jefferson's uncommon to be so off center? Any ideas on valuation of this one so I know if it's worth a TPG Certification? Also...is it within the allowable threshold of weight being 5.2g?
Awesome thanks so far guys! I have read and learned enough to know that it's best to have a full date showing, and the steps are definitely a bonus. Very exciting!
That's a nice one. And as for the extra weight, it appears to be slightly elongated and larger than a nickel. Put it in a stack of nickels. Great error.
Thank you for your post. My wife found a Lincoln Penny like that. It is 30-40% off center, but has no date. How do you get them valued??
I don't believe that most common cents, nickels, and dimes are worth paying the PCGS or NGC certification fee for mint errors. However, many collectors do submit them, as they want them in holders, even if the value of the error coin is less than the certification fees, etc.
Off Centers on a Cent really don't carry a huge premium. Especially with no date. Value is about $4.00 - $6.00
Yep.. That would be me! I like to show them for educational purposes and because some have a unique look to them or even for sentimental value
I got lucky and made $40 on it! I've only found 3 separate previous auctions for the 1972. Not sure if it's a good reference price, but it made the new buyer pretty happy
