1972 -Having a hard time classifying one

I recently opened a couple of rolls of 1972 P pennies that I've had for years. I kind of hit a jackpot with what I believe to be a 1DO-004(Copper Coins), a FS108, a FS-106, a FS102 and a FS-109. I'm fairly sure I have them properly classified. I have a couple though that I'm not sure of. The one I'm showing with this post kind of looks like machine doubling with possibly a small cud on the tip of doubling of the lower bar of the 2. There may be some faint doubling on IGWT, most visible on the N, the O and the first T in TRUST. (you have to look carefully to see it). It may or may not be actual doubling. There are a number of 1972s with doubling above the lower bar of the two but this does not look like any I can find to classify. The "cud" on the 2 is what interests me. I doubt this is a real double but would appreciate feedback.

The "cud" on the 2 is what interests me. This is a quote from your next to last sentence. A cud must touch the rim so you don’t have a cud. The 1972 cents have many do’s but I’m not seeing them. I am also not good with varieties.

Definitely not a DDO-004. Not any DDO, in fact.

Thanks frog. I did not say it might be a -004. That much I know. You may be correct about no doubling, but I personally see a few weak doubles in IGWT. Either way, I know it's worth little to nothing.

Thanks Nut. I'm not sure about your cud statement (needing to touch the rim) but you may be right. Either way, I think it gets the point across. The doubles I see (If they are) are very faint and difficult to see, but they are visible in the pics. Look closely at the right side of the T. You can see what looks like faint doubling with notch(es).

Oh sorry, I saw the part where you said you thought you found a. I misunderstood.
If anything, it is probably the master hub doubling that is common on 72s.

Please check them out very carefully with the known doubling that exist on this date. Some are cheap and others are into three digits.

Cuds appear on the rim. Not a cud but it is a nice looking coin.

Not a DDO-004. Not a doubled die, nor does it look like a Master die- sorry

I echo Furry's assessment. Maybe master hub doubling, but honestly this doesn't look like that either. Some slight MD on the date.

…the coin has die deterioration at IGWT and MD on the date, no doubling.

Possibly a master hub double but it does not look like it. In the two rolls, probably half of them are the common MHD that is common. I have come to recognize the characteristics pretty well, I think.

Agreed. The date looks primarily MD. It's just whatever is going on at the tip of the bottom of the 2, kind of extending from the MD and unlike the MD, it has some extra elevation. Anyway, I'm going to put it in with the "normal" 72's and let it go.

Yes, die deterioration but many of the doubles in 72 come with deteriorated dies. Here are a couple of the better ones from the two rolls.

I called it exactly what the op called it so they could reference what I was saying.
