I may have found a 1971 S Lincoln Cent DDO-002 Variety. However, look below the “E” in “WE”, I do not see this in any of the varieties. Is this possibly a new variety?

At first I thought it looked like a match, 002

Thanks for putting another set of eyes on it, Mark.

Look at how much separation there is on 002. There isn't any separation on your coin.

I see quite a bit of separation in TRUST, TR and ST

Also in LIBERTY, LI and TY

Not to mention IN GOD WE on VV has some strong separation. Yours has none. Not trying to down you or anything. Just want you to make sure you are checking ALL of the coin instead of just a small portion. It's all or nothing. Yours is nothing in this case.

Am I crazy here? I'm pretty sure I'm not. BUT I am super sleep-deprived right now so I am deferring to you.

I never said nor thought that it was the same variety. If it’s “all or nothing” then yes, you would be correct if that were the question. Like I said in the title/question of the post I think I “may” and “possibly a new variety”. I said it looked close, never said it looked the same.

It doesn't look like 002 to me either. While the OPs photo's aren't that clear you can tell the lettering is not fat enough to have the separation required to be 002.

As mentioned ,the photos are not sharp enough to confirm any variety, especially new ones have a greater level of proof than one that is commonly known and authenticated. At first look, I was sure it was machine doubling or the beginning of die deterioration doubling ( esp. in last T of trust), but I could not be 100% sure. But I also see no indication of any true doubling. IMO, Jim

I was seeing the same thing. Kinda looked like the common "step" that often appears at the top of the IGWT on LMCs with MD . But again the photos are not clear enough to even confirm that.
