1971 Doubled Die Kennedy

    I have a few Kennedys in my collection that my Mom got me when I was seven. This particular one looks like a doubled die, but I'm not sure. 20180516_225343.jpg 20180516_225322.jpg 20180516_225343.jpg

    I see some small detail in the R but I don’t see any doubling

    Thank you. I see some in the R but thats probably just a post-mint issue.

    You're right, it's just a shadow left over from the strike. The die didn't look like that.

    @ddfinder welcome!
    I don't think this is a DDO, but it is hard to tell from the picture. Here is a link to Wexler's site. Compare your coin to the one shown, especially the top of the U. There should be noticeable splits in the serifs at the top. Your U does look 'thicker' at the top, but may not be a DD. There should also be some doubling on the 71 and the TY of Liberty. If it is the DDO listed it would have all the same indications since it from the same die. It will also help you to read the sections "How Dies are Made" and "Worthless Doubling". Good Luck!
