I've just finished going thru my latest nickel box and have a couple of questions on the 1970-1979 issues or errors. I know that 1975-D is a valid error coin (wandering mint mark). I have seen mention made of a 1971-D error coin. But, I'm not certain because i've have seen posts about error coins in that decade, but 1971-D is not mentioned. Is it a valid error coin?

Is there any other reason to collect/store (i.e. hoard) nickels from that decade? I've been setting those aside just because they are old. I've read that collectors are suggesting the 1960-1969 nickels be kept because of their age.

These are newbie questions, I know. When he passed, I just started collecting the coins that have blank spaces in my Dad's coin folders and kept adding new ones as they came along. Just from change received in the normal course of events. Thanks, GT
