ANYONE seen this before? It is not from another coin, since it's not circular, more egg shaped. So I picked up these halfs with some Dollars at my Krogers. One of the Kennedys has an odd indentation. Something has made a 1mm (maybe 1/20") wide impression, approximately from his chin, cutting across his Adams apple and around to the back of his head. Again, not coin shaped. What could be so heavy as to emboss a non-circular mark like this on a coin? I could not fit a round ruler on it, but maybe you can see the "U" shape under the ruler. So, what's up? What do you guys and/or ladies think?
I believe that's the same effect as on 'ghost' Lincolns of the 1940's and 50's. Called Impact Die Impressions, I think. The coin is struck from worn/overused dies,
I agree with the deteriorated dies. Aren't Ghost Lincolns from what is called "indirect design transfer"?
It is a later die stage Kennedy not worth more than 50 Cents. This is a common look on worn and circulated half's. If you like it keep it, but if you label it, I would label it as a late die state.
