OOOH I found one! It's in bad shape & beat up, but I'm really excited to add it to my collection! Yay me!
I think, unfortunately, you have a large date. The upper bend of the 9 has to angle sharply toward the 7. Yours looks to bend toward the mintmark and has a die chip on the end which makes it look like it is pointing to the 7. http://lincolncentresource.com/smalldates/1970Ssmalldate.html
Nice find. From what I can see in your photo I think you are correct in your assessment. More photos may help to convince others, but not necessary.
You may be correct, but when I click the jpg image file (in blue) and look at the image in major enlargement it looks to me like a die chip on the 9. I will gladly be wrong though.
I know I need a better microscope to be a 100% certain, but I did do a side by side comparison to all the images online and my penny matches. I think it's genuine, but it's so beat up I didn't even show the Reverse, it looks like a train ran over it
Almost every one found and posted here over the last 6 1/2 years I’ve been a member has been a large date. This is a small date. This one does have the high 7 (I measured) and the weak LIBERTY. The 9 looks kinda squashed so that looks right, and the end point of the 9 looks to have been damaged from wear, along with the rest of the wear sustained on both sides. All told this is a very infrequent find but a very nice eye to find it… @Kay67 …imo…Spark
She’s right…I presumed the level of damage and wear was similar to the obverse. I’d like to see the reverse too…Spark
Meow was looking for that in Meow's recent penny dive. Many 70 s found. None like this. Meow did find a 1970 S/S but it was a bit damaged making a little less cool.
Very rare. This is only the second found in the wild I’ve seen in the past 10 years. Some folks here search millions of cents and never find one. Despite condition, this is a solid find!
