I didn't know where to post since this is not an error. Sorry if I put it in the wrong place. Is the small or large date? Should I buy it for a dollar? (If it's the small date, if it's the large date I guess it's worth a penny then right?)
Ok thanks I'm looking to buy some coins to actually have a collection soon. Can't really add to my collection cause I have more of a hoard not a collection. I guess I'll buy some graded coins to be on the safe side.
What are you looking to add to your collection? You don't necessarily need to spend the $$ on graded coins.
It's best to be patient with coins. I've been trying to get 2 coins now for over 4 years. They will complete my set.
You should begin by learning how to grade. I'm not trying to be a wiseguy, but you're going about it the wrong way. Without even a basic knowledge of grading, you're apt to lose more often than win. ~ Chris
My advice is not to think of collecting as a race or competition. Pace yourself especially in the early stages. You want to have a feel and understanding about the hobby and coins. This way you'll make fewer mistakes and save money in the process.
Oh ok I'm going to look up that text book now thanks. I did buy "the red book 2020" the other day kindle version.
Here is a link you may find useful. https://www.pcgs.com/photograde/ It's not a replacement for reading books and getting a broader understanding of the process, especially those with more sensitive designs. But it is helpful.
That's a good start. Just ignore the prices. Prices are just a guide but a lot of people think those prices are set in stone which they are not.
It IS going to be really useful. Thanks a bunch. I'm also going to get the book that referred. I'm not getting the kindle edition because I figured the actual photos would be best. Not photos on my screen which may differ in color. I always keep my screen dimmer than most.
Large date. 1 cent. Has none of the markers for the small date. High 7, extreme curl on the 9, inside of the 9 at the end is sharp and not blunt, LIBERTY is weakly struck.
I pretty sure I'm seeing the difference when comparing one to another now. I think. But when looking at some pennies it's still hard for me to tell. I just need to look at bunches and bunches like you guys. Some of the 7s I can tell. They have a curve to them and are longer. Some are harder for me to tell. LIBERTY being weakly struck is easier for me to see than the 7s.
