Yes, Im newbie to this all. Im having fun looking closely at any change that I get. I seem to be finding tons of misinformation out on the internet go figure. What am I looking for as far as a 1970 dime with no mint mark? Does it have to be uncirculated or something?
No That is normal. Coins struck at the Philadelphia Mint before 1979 (except 1942-1945 five-cent pieces) do not have a mint mark. Starting in 1979 a letter P was used on the dollar, and on all other denominations except the cent hereafter.
Or Look closely at proof coins and how they are made so you can tell the difference. The 1970 No S proof is probably what you are thinking of.
Your coin is a business strike whereas the one you're thinking of is a proof. Compare to the link below... http://www.pcgscoinfacts.com/Coin/Detail/5248
If that is the case, then I might suggest that you can't go wrong investing in a current issue of this book. Chris
While theoretically it is possible, you are not going to find one in circulation. These come from proof sets.
