Coin is in really bad shape but what caught my attention was the area around the lips. Don't hold back now...only way I will learn..lol Thanks..
What I call a DEFDAM - Definitely Damaged Not a Mint Error but some circulation hits. Welcome to CoinTalk!
@Bargainbidder ...I calculate this coin spent at least 40 years in circulation, then got dropped in a parking lot. It spent at least an hour or two on the tarmac, was run over 3 times by cars and then picked up by a coupon-clipping housewife who then used it to buy groceries. Serendipity struck when the inherent power of the coin forced itself into your path in life. Man, you are one lucky guy. ...with a liberal dusting of "toung-in-cheek"...Spark (btw, there are plenty of other ways to learn about coins, go to: doubleddie.com to learn about how coins are made, error-ref.com to identify true mint errors, and lincolncentresource.com for all things lincoln penny).
If you don't want us to hold back, then I have to ask you, "Given all the obvious damage on the obverse of the coin, what makes you think that the marks around the lips aren't damage, too?" Chris
For the sake of learning, ask yourself; "What do I see", and, "How could it have happened?" Learn the minting process and you'll readily see it is just circulation damage, nothing more.
