Title sums it up. Penny is is fair condition, everything is raised, very little wear, but definitely not shiny and new. I'm a newbie (yeah I know, I'll admit it lol). Trying to find out it if is worth keeping in my brand new collection or shall I toss it into a roll to cash in? Thanks! lara4228
Lincoln Cents From Philadelphia do not have mint marks. You will have D for Denver, S for San Francisco (for the years 70,71,72,73, and 74..not including wheat pennies) and S for proofs too.
All pennies made in Philadelphia have no mint mark Only coins made in Denver and San Francisco have a mint mark, D and S respectively
ok thank you every one. I think I understand, please correct me if I'm wrong in my comprehension....all pennies, regardless of date that were made in Philadelphia will bear no mint mark, however all other locations will have their respective initial on them. (?)
Yes. You will see a "P" on all other denominations minted today. If there is no mintmark, it was made in philly. the only error where having it without the mintmark would be considered valuable is the 1922-D no D.
That's generally correct, but for Lincoln Cents it gets a bit murky from 1973-1986 because the West Point Mint also struck Cents with no mint mark.
They know those aren't from Philly because they never minted any cents in Philadelphia that year, just FYI.
Similarly, the San Francisco mint struck cents for circulation in 1965-67, when no US coins had mintmarks.
Hi I have a 1969 penny not silver but silver in color no mint mark. Trying to find out what the material is. Any ideas?
