Disagree respectfully. Have one 2.84 scale is dead bang or 3 others are off same amount. Made me sick when I got it very easy to tell was a double die. But horrible shape made no sense so I weighed it not sure composites but they deteriorate like nothing I know
Welcome to CoinTalk James You just quoted and responded to one of the foremost authority in the world for Mint Errors. Fred was correct in his analysis. In the future please start your own separate unique thread and post some pictures to back-up your opinion. Also.. The correct numismatic terminology is Doubled Die not double die which is a common mistake newbies make.
That’s great to have so many. I have found very few well circulated ones. Maybe 5 or so since forever. No floating roofs yet
@James Hutchinson …Welcome to Coin Talk! Most of the members here agree to disagree on a frequent basis, but it is done with civility and backed up with facts. It sounds like your scale may need re-calibrating or summarily replaced. And @Fred Weinberg has been a mentor for a lot of us, he knows and posts factual knowledge, you would do well to learn more about him. Also, this is a 4 year old thread. We all have made this kind of mistake. My advice to you is to research to your hearts content but post a new thread in the appropriate forum when you wish to share a finding. Posting in the correct forum gets you more views and, consequently, more help and assistance…imo…Spark
