Double checking my dimes before returning them to the bank I noticed a difference in the torch flame designs and this is what I learned after my research...it pays off to double check! I recuperated 4 dimes of this type. Please read the Cherry Pickers notes. Comments are always welcomed.
Yeah, I had one of those stolen from me, 8 June 2015. That's what you get for trying to help a relative who's a junkie.
Four years later and I have found probably 10 of them, I am not really sure how rare they are. CRH and Pocket change.
The yrs that are rare are 69 and 70 (70 and 70D) on business circulation strikes... the other yrs up to 1980 are not, however this flame design was produced from 68 (on Proof only) up to 1980 (Circulation Strike). Which means it can be a collectable serie or variety.
I have found atleast 10 Type two reverse dimes 69 70 and 70D, the other years don't matter, my consensus is that they are not as rare as cherry pickers guide says, I think the key is to find one or a few in High grade. Circulated ones are a dime a dozen.
Just pick them up from Ebay. If the last ten minutes of my browsing are any indication, they're not hard to find. Added hint: buy every one of these years and mints you can find with a Full Torch. They'll either be the new reverse, or vanishingly rare because the old reverse Masters were completely worn out by then. FT 1969's and 1970's are "buy every one you find" scarce. PCGS has 724 1969's graded, and only 30 FT's between both Mints.
This was in my pocket change, a couple days ago. It has some verdigris on the face, and hair. Most I have found look like yours, which is a good example This is one of the nicer ones I have found. Proof example first. Very hard to get a good pic through the plastic.
