Is this a lamination error on this 1967 penny? The black spots appear to be carbon spots. There's a bulge coming out of the coin seen in GOD, followed by a bulge coming out directly on the bottom of the reverse in ONE (which has a snaking curl). Part of LIBERTY on the front also bulges out. Thanks in advance.
Perhaps that may explain the carbon spots, and the bulge could be from "bubbling" inside due to excessive heat (?). But, it must be a very hot fire (almost 2000 degrees fahrenheit, melting point of a penny) to curl it like that. Very possible, but then wouldn't the other details be melted too? Why is it just isolated to certain select portions of the penny? What explains the bulge on both sides, exactly opposite one another in the shape of a curl and not a circular shape?
