Tortina, it's never too early in your collecting career to do the following exercise. Think through and try to explain how would that mark have been struck onto the coin during the minting process? The way people become experts, particularly about error coins, is to understand the minting process and what can/does go wrong with it.
Actually this is confusing. No U.S. coins had mint marks from 1965-1967. And they were still being produced at all 3 mints, so it could have come from either one.
Lol..I was just reading up on the no mint mark for 1965-1967 U.S. coin. Now I’m researching the mark on the torch. Have not come up with anything. Thank you.
The mark on the torch is most likely damage. Someone took pliers or a vise and squeezed something onto the coin to make that impression.
id start off with a beginner guide to coin collecting. Also get a red book. youll see in the red book price guide pics of each denomination, and where mint marks should. Ive never seen one on the torch, and as others have said, they werent included on 65-67 ones
In 1967 they made these in more than one mint, just without the mint mark. From www.rooseveltdimes.net: "For the years 1965 to 1967, coins produced at various mints were not identified by mint mark."
PMD is Post Mint Damage. Damage done after it left the mint. So now there are infinite ways in which a coin can get damaged. Just sit down and start writing ways that a coin can get a scratch, hit hard, etc etc etc. Where can you find coins, accidents from kids, etc etc etc. And don't forget the stuff you can't think off. For instance when I learned to do welding we were told to empty our pockets and put stuff aside. I recall putting coins to the side, and when I moved the torch to the side right to the coins. Think of the damage that occurred, ie PMD. Some ppl will try to convince others that it was a Mint Error. It must be because they can't think of how many infinite ways a coin can get damaged. You won't find anything searching for different PMD. It's just more common sense.
I’ll have to disagree i Have a 1967 with almost the same mark on it same spot unless I ended up with the same dime as him
