That's always the case with his fantasies.

Cool, thanks, I did not know that as this is the first one i've ordered. Someone mentioned him using fresh blanks so I thought I would add my 2c.

I don't see anything wrong with fantasy coins per se, but if you're going to spend money on such I personally would rather get some of his original designs, and not just alterations of someone else's work. Personally I don't see the attraction otherwise.

He makes other tokens - mostly political. I do NOT like his politics but I love his fantasy productions! I have four now - this dollar, the 1910 Indian Cent, the 1945 Roosevelt and the 1975 silver quarter.

Oh, they existed, of that there's no doubt; official mint records say so. The question has always been, do they still exist? Probably not, but there's a non-zero chance there may still be some hidden away (of course if they do turn up they may very well be confiscated as illegal to own anyway) and that slim chance is what excites people about 1964 Peace Dollars.

1965 Peace dollars never existed even temporarily and such a fantasy piece seems more of a joke than a fantasy, to me at least.

As noted in my last post, "I could find no evidence of a host coin". It states "Private high-quality over-strike on genuine 1922-1935 coin." It tells you that in the first 10 words in it's description, and always has. I believe most knew this was the case even on the '64-D's he produced. Not trying to offend jpcienkus, just showing it was probably already known by most.

Actually I still haven't received it, I ordered it that day which I think was a week ago. Maybe the $80 don't get any respect, :banghead:so I'll be waiting another week or so. :D Just kidding, Carr is a smart man and he wouldn't play like that. It'll show up soon.

Doesn't appear he struck any more bulk-handled examples, yet.

The "attraction" is in the aftermarket which "exploded" with the release of his 1964-D Peace Dollar. These could be purchased for $110 and once the 1,964 limit had been reached, quickly started selling for $350 each.

I don't think any other coin which he has released since then has had the popularity of that original 1964-D Peace Dollar.

I do not know if the 1965-D Peace Dollar will enjoy the same returns as the 64-D but I expect not.

Not buying it, because I think altering coins/dates is a big scam anyways, where's the difference to that 1913 V-Nickel that appeared on eBay a couple of days ago? Errm right, 5 of those were struck so you're not supposed to alter the date... wait... or maybe 6? Sorry for being negative.

That would not attract me in the least; I think it's a rip-off and the fact I might find someone else to rip off worse than I would have been doesn't hold much attraction for me lol... moral and ethical considerations aside, I never did like playing "hot potato"; I lost at that too many times.

I would be embarrassed to admit to owning such things, and wouldn't feel right trying to "find the bigger fool" to make a profit off them, but maybe that's just me. I just think this kind of thing makes serious coin collecting look like a joke. Nothing against fantasy pieces and other exonumia, but this... well, they're just not real, even Chuck E. Cheese token collecting has more respectability than this. I suppose enough people disagree for him to make money off of... but this just doesn't look or feel right to me. This just isn't true coin collecting anymore, IMO.

I finally got my $80 Peace Dollar but she looked bad! Lady Liberty had a big zit right on her cheek next to her nose. :banghead: I was shocked, I've never gotten a bad bulk handled coin from dc-coin. Anyways, I wrote to Daniel Carr right away and he said no problem, return it for a refund or whatever you want to do. I said I want an upgrade to the high falutin one so I sent him a check for the difference, $55 and now I'm happy as a clam. :shame: The coin is an absolute beauty!! I'll post the bulk handled and then the high falutin one. Lesson learned, just because I've been lucky in the past buying bulk handled coins I can't expect to get good looking bulk handled coins every time. :D DannyCarr 001.JPG

Just so y'alls knows, it was myself and one other person that seeded the thought of creating the 1965 in Dan's mind. Which might explain why I got mine a mere three days after hitting the "purchase" button.
