So, I came across a penny at the coin shop on Saturday labeled "Unusual 5". I started looking at it, and it is indeed unusual! I searched, but can't seem to find a variety such as this. The 5 looks like it has a Straight line as the bottom curve. The reverse appears to be normal. Has anyone seen one of these, and can you give me information on it? It does appear to be done during the minting, as I don't see how damage could have done this:
Well, I believe you Paddyman.... as I know NOTHING about Errors... just thought it was strange! I guess it'll just be a cool thing to keep around (with the 1000's of other coins I have lying around!)
If one wanted , they could take a flat nose micro screwdriver and push it back out again. Copper is soft and that thickness, easy to move with almost any bump.
If it didn't take a hit, someone with waaaay too much time on their hands created it. Boys and their toys.
Like paddy said, it took a hit. Like Jim said, it is very easy to move copper around. FWIW, there are many, many B&Ms around where the owner knows very little about errors. They prefer not to waste their time with them because they don't have much of a market for errors. Chris
