1965 dd or old dime

    Is this doubling do to age or machine

    1965 is not old. But the die may have
    been. Notice the orange peel? You may
    have die erosion doubling which is very
    common, especially on small coins.

    The general rule for real doubling is
    the secondary image will have some
    degree of roundness to it just as the
    primary image. And usually the secondary
    image will be a bit lower since it didn't get
    the first die hubbing. Flat, "shelf like", "step
    like" secondary images are all too often
    just noise.
