Every bit a 66. However, if they are reluctant to nominate this coin as top pop, they will look for a reason to give it a details/ cleaning grade. It seems unusually shiny for a business strike 1965. But all we have are poor photos.
I don't want to suggest they won't "top pop" it. It happens all the time. But they STOP giving a coin "the benefit of the doubt" at tying the current "top pop". For it to supplant the current top, it needs to be "awesome". But once a new top pop with a population of 1 exists, the 2nd one instantly becomes easier.
At this point after so many favorable comments, I think if it were mine, I would submit it...now to who (or is that whom)?
Aside from the claimed variety (which the evidence doesn't seem to support), what would it need to grade out as to be worthwhile? I'm thinking like 67 but this was never one of my areas.
Great Collections sold a PCGS VF30 DDO fs-101 in 2015 for $386. My guess is that the OP coin would sell for well over $1000 which is why I'd send it in to either NGC or PCGS.
Okay, but that's a coin matching the claimed variety. The presented evidence simply does not seem to support the notion the OP coin is of said variety. While his photos do seem to suggest doubling, if you look very closely you'll see it simply doesn't match and is the main reason I posed the question. If he's going to submit the coin, he would be wise to consider the possibility that the coin's grade is all that will matter.
Wexler lists only the one, and while Variety Vista lists three, the only photos provided (of a rather rough example) do not match. Earlier in the thread Mr. Stachowski posted a link to NGC that shows a single small photo of another (FS102), this too doesn't seem to match although there's insufficient evidence to say so conclusively. I haven't yet invested the necessary time into trying to locate others. As much as I'd like to see the OP score on this one, I also hope he proceeds with caution unless very confident the grade alone can carry him through. Perhaps he'll be able to post additional photos?
Get a usb microscope. I just bought a "Plugable", $37 free shipping from Amazon Prime. You can't post pictures with a loupe and your phone cam ain't gettin' it. Spark
Points taken. Well if those types would most likely be a waste of money I won't buy one. I do want something though that will take photos at magnification levels capable of clearly showing details Needed to identify the different errors and varieties at least better than what this iPhone is capable of. I will start looking into what to get and hopefully find something that won't break the bank
Thanks guys for all the responses, I appreciate it. I'm probably going to send it to pcgs and see what happens. I have a super nice 65 Jeff that I think would have a really good shot at getting full steps designation so maybe if I send both of them in at the same time, hopefully I'll get lucky with one or the other lol.
