I'm trying to teach my kids that coin collection should not have to cost more by just collecting what is available right now. My son is 10 and he already know what a state quarters and National Park Quarter. My daughter who is 8 also knows all the mints but she is not as into as much as my son. I don't force them this hobby and I want them to make that choice for themselves. I just wanted to educate them about the hobby. I have several uncirculated Silver Eagles, Eisenhower, Kennedy and Franklin. The rest are all uncirculated clad rolls of Kennedy, National Park Quarters and Native American $1 coins from the U.S. Mint and also a few circulated US coins. But for now, I'm focusing on Washington Quarters because they are being phased out by the State and National Park Quarters. In three years we will see the new Quarters with Women on them and I'm sure we will probably won't see the Washington Quarters that much or maybe almost gone and very damage. My goal is to have the largest circulated collection of Washington Quarters... Thank you. I hope you have some uncirculated in your inventory and you can share some pictures. Have a weekend.
I'm sure I do. I just got back from a 2 week trip to Spain and France and am unwinding. I'll have to go down and see what I can dig up, photo wise for you. The safe is a bit crammed with my collection. I didn't want my dehumidifier running all day while I was away (incase anything went wrong with it) so I have a dehumidifier for inside the safe and I managed to cram everything in there so it's A.O.K.! (I do save every Bicentennial quarter I get my hands on! Not many but it doesn't matter the condition.)
De-humidifier, You must have a huge collection. I have a small one but I started to put my coins in foodsaver bags since I have the machine. I vacumm and seal all of my coins and will start using that method to prevent them all from any moisture.
Check out my vacumn and sealed rolls on page7. It should be sufficient for storage without having to have a de-humidifier and running electricity. It might work for your situation.
I saw the vacuum packing. Do you know what kind of plastic that is? It could be bad for the coins but definitely a good way to keep the moisture out. I use a dehumidifier for the basement regardless if there are coins in there or not. It's too humid down there. Not good for anything else. The one in the safe is a small one that I plug in to the wall to recharge. It's not using electricity all the time. Pretty neat little thing and works well. The photo is not the exact one I have but very similar.
Yes there are a lot of brands but does the same job of removing air and seal to prevent any moisture all the time
