Correction 1699. I have to subtract the two silver that I have from the inventory.

Just re-read your post and you mentioned that you started in 1965. Whew, I was just 2 yrs old at that time. You must have a vast collection. That is sure brought you enjoyment and pride.

I'd have better collection if I hadn't been so cheap. I rarely paid more than face value but was willing to do the hard work to chase down Gems so did acquire multiple examples of most dates. I'd travel to where the Gems were released from the banks when I could find them and found that mint sets were released by zip code in those days so were also trackable. I figured I could always trade Gems for the rarities but now I doubt this is going to happen. The market simply hasn't developed at all the way I expected. I also left a lot of the coins in mint set packaging and the mint set packaging has caused a lot of corrosion.

It took a lot of courage to spend money and time on coins everyone hated and might never be collected. So I spent a lot of time and little money.

The irony is that I started promoting clad back in 1986 and my collection has suffered a little for it. I haven't worked that much on the collection itself since then so the later dates are spread around in safety deposit boxes.

Until 1972 I didn't actually save the clads and just watched them in circulation. I'm almost certain I spent a couple of rarities including a 1971-D DDR. I had noticed several coins struck with proof reverses and spent those as well. Before 1972 brand new coins would sit in storage for many years and then come out. It seemed a waste to collect them. But in '72 they changed their procedures and coins no longer sat in storage. The clads are all wearing out fairly evenly because the government isn't sitting on them for decades or even years.

I pulled several of these from circulation in 1964. Can you help me with the value today?

    There's only one known.

They were actually minted in 1965 or early 1966.

If yours are real you'll have to offer me one.

There are several silver 1965 quarters and dimes known but the only clad '64 is a quarter. I saw it and it's a very nice specimen.

You also have to bring it to them. By the time you factor you time and gas, you actually lost money.

To make this worth the effort, you should get at least $10 each coin
