I have to be smoking something because; A. I don't buy from online sources(except directly from the mint), and B. because I'm a better shopper and can find better deals than some? GMAB
The only reason I asked is because I've conversed with some who are certain their's came from the Mint already sealed.
In the Scotsman Winter Sale last January, there were three lots of (5 each) 1952 & 1953 Proof Sets in which there was probably no question that they were unsearched. All three were in the original, unopened shipping boxes. One was postmarked "JUL 29, 1952" and the other two were postmarked "SEP 11, 1953" from COMMERCE STA, PHILADELPHIA, PA. Boy, what I wouldn't have given to win one of those! Chris
Throw the book away! Would you believe that the 1952 lot of 5 sold for $2100? Both 1953 lots of 5 sold for $1250 each. Chris
$9 is way less than melt. $10 is way less than melt. You're either buying them from someone who has not idea what the value of silver melt is or you are seriously mistaken.
50c - .36169oz 25c - .18084oz 10c - .07234oz Total silver by weight - .61487oz x $18 = $11.07 (combined melt value)
They were discounted for the recent coin show here by a reputable dealer, who's been in business for 40 years.
They did ship some of them with the envelope sealed, but only those where the buyer just ordered one set. I have seen the original sets, addressed and mailed out with postage attached.
