Hello. Today I got some employee discount at the coin shop I work at and got $50.10 in silver at melt price. This included 8 Barber dimes, 4 AU-MS Mercury dimes, 2 Walking liberty half dollars, 1 Franklin Half dollar, and some proof silver coins. One of the proof silver coins was the 1964 proof half dollar which I am questioning. I am wondering if it is the Accented Hair variety. Any help is appreciated. Thank you so much.
I actually had some trouble with these AH Kennedy '64s too. I found that the truncated serif in 'I' was really the best marker for picking them out. For me, some of the hair on the non-AH proofs looks wishbone-like, making identification using just the hair difficult.
So would I basically have to look for the bottom left serif to be "shorter" than the right in the "I"? I have to go back to the shop and look through maybe 30 proof sets for these now haha. But thank you for the help.
Yup, indeed. Found two at mine this afternoon! One has the classic characteristic milk spots, but one does not.
Not from what I can see..... One thing, look for the Accented Hair's Little Brother also... https://www.cointalk.com/threads/ac...al-obverse-listed-as-variety-by-anacs.246860/
