1964 P UNC set - FS or FB?

Looking thru my coins I found an old envelop with 1964 P&D UNC sets in it. Do you think the "P" nickel might be FS or the "P" dime might be FB? The scratches you might see seem to be on the cello covering

Thanks for any thoughts you can provide

    rickmp Frequently flatulent.

    That's a proof set.
Mint sets had red and blue stripes on the cello.
Proofs are supposed to have full steps and full bands.

Proof nickels had better have full steps, since they're struck twice.

Coincidentally, 1964 is the LAST year of Philadelphia proof sets. After a 3-year hiatus, proof coining moved to San Francisco.

You mean the heavy foil tags? Dunno. Never thought about it.

I have been wondering what the FB was referring to on Rosies. Now I don't have to ask. Thanks!!

IIRC, They're actually struck up to 6 times. If proof coins don't have FB or FS, there's usually something wrong.

That and those cents with the large P or D on them.

Nothing but a marketing gimmick, to fill out the package. Just like the copper/bronze tokens P & D that were in other sets. And one other that said Treasury on it.

I heard that specifically about proof platinum eagles, but that would be news to me about nickels.

It's actually Full Torch for Roosies, but it's become a common usage (misnomer) to say FB

I wouldn’t stake my reputation on it, because as I recall it referred to Proof coins as a general subject, thus your version and mine could both be true.

I have the old Discovery Channel program, "Secrets of the United States Mint", and the footage of striking platinum proof eagles is a mind-bender.
