I was looking at this half dollar and I noticed it had this little area of raised metal. At first I thought it was a Denver mint mark but I realized it was 1964 so it should be on the reverse. It is a very damaged coin but surprisingly has a lot of luster. Anyway, does anyone know what the mark is? Could it possibly just be damage?

Abby from your images it's hard to tell exactly what area you're talking about . Can you mark the area in question ?
The image does seem to have several die chips, perhaps a defective plachet.

If you're near Baltimore this weekend the show is at the convention center bring it there I'm sure someone will have an answer .
