I'd advise you to walk before you run.........don't drink the koolaid......what you have is not going to fetch any sort of 'premium'. Common stuff, and in low demand.
Thank you for the advice and I will surely use it. However, these 3 coins were among over a dozen other proof coins in the same lot and stood out like a diamond. My total investment in these 3 Jefferson 5C and one 1902 Indian Head 1C will be less than $150 after grading and I'm fsirfa certain atleasta one will be worth the effort as far as cash value. They will all be worth it in personal value. I will be far more careful in the future though, thank you.
Appreciate the input. We will see what they grade. I'm hoping for a I told ya so moment but it is most likely going to be you to me instead of me to you.......
You're very welcome....as all of us here want the hobby to grow ,but we see it all the time where new comers to the hobby make some real bad mistakes and choices in buying items that are not as expected.
You're not going to make a 'ton 'o money' in this hobby Sarah. Most folks only break even, if they're lucky. I've made a few bucks buying and selling, but I've lost more buying the 'junk' I love.........
I hope to be in that same position. As long as I love it, it won't be junk and worth the "money"! Of course I dream of finding "that" million dollar coin but do not expect anything. Aslo, since finding this forum and having others to share with, I think I've already made a profit..
This is my plan as of right now. I go to estate sales, yard sales and troll eBay auctions buying the bigest cheapest lots with us coinage, go through them sorting by denomination, mint and conditions, I pull out the best condition and most rare ones and give them a good inspection (will be adding research and conversation) pull out the best of that lot and have them graded. I have a budget of around $500 a month to buy and grade them. Not intending to make large sums of money but I'm not trying not to....
I have an understanding with those particular authorities.... They leave me alone for online violations...
Some better pictures to see the patina, the sharpness of this strike and the square edges just set this thing off!! I'm very excited to get this one back from PCGS. Follow ups on return coming.
Took these with my other phone, transferred them to this one to show the patina and try to get the square edges to pop out. My cameras suck, I am looking into a special cam to take pics with....
I have tried to show the flawless surface of these magnificent Jeffersons. Of every nickel I've looked at via PCGS coin facts app and website, these are by far nicer than any example I've looked at...
Nice looking and definitely a proof. The vast majority of these, at least going by the PCGS pop report, grade out as PR68 worth about $17. Hopefully you'll get luck and get a PR69 or PR70. The premium for a 69 is $25. Jackpot if you hit 70.......the price guide on those is $625. The chances are slim........only 7 have been graded compared to 1598 in PR68. Good luck!
Thank you, I think I will need a little luck. I have a fantasy that it is a special strike but know better.
This isn't a 1964 I know, but this is one of the few I have that aren't colorful. This is a PR68 cameo for comparison to yours.
How they decide on grade beyond 65 must be based on the graders mood when they get out of bed in the morning. Both of those coins are beautiful and I'd be hard pressed to spot any differences.
