I was searching my 1964 Kennedy halves to ensure that I didn't overlook them for the Heavily Accented Hair variety. My qestions are: 1) Does the coin have to be a proof w/deep cameo? 2) Do all of the characteristics have to be on the coin in order for it to be HD? The characteristics I'm talking about are: The missing serif on the lower left of ' I ' in United. The ' V ' shape of the hair. No vertical serif on the 'G' in the initials on the reverse. The weak upper left tip of the shield on the reverse. zeke

Along with my bad photos and using the site information from 19Lyds and Cazkaboom I beleive that my 64 Kennedy is the 'transitional one'. The reverse 'HD' matches my coin but the obverse characteristic aren't there(tough to see). Thanks for all your help. I'm going to label my coin " 1964 HDT ". zeke
Cool, I didnt even realize there were coins that showed some, but not all, accent hair characteristics. Sure enough your reverse has the broken rays and missing tail on the G. But your Obverse has neither of the other two traits. Thanks for posting the pics!
yes, I think ipotad and bestcoin links have the same photos and mostly the same exact text. Not sure which one ripped off the other. I see them both linked frequently. But I hope you are not saying the pics I posted are ripped off, as I took those shots myself. (I dont think you are, but wasnt 100% sure on your meaning). Clearly my photos dont match either ipotad or bestcoin. I also have all the trial and error pics to prove it! (and the original RAW files). yeah, what he said! :yes:
This one (mine) has "strong hair, " but does NOT meet the designation for "Accented Hair." That coin has very distinctive hairlines, and is very full, and deeply struck. Mine is just a very gemmy proof: From "coin world" -- a comparison of accented hair and regular hair:
I'm not looking at your coin in hand like you are, but are you sure it is a Proof? CONECA list the UVC-4 as the ODV-002 / RDV-001 for a business strike.
