The pictures are not grate. But here I have what looks to be a silver 63 penny. It's is not on a dime. I know I would need to weigh it. As we see if it's magnetic. It is not painted you can clearly see like a copper tint on top of the silver color. Anyone know anything about a 63 silver penny?

    Thanks. CM170201-14210001.jpg CM170201-14211302.jpg CM170201-14213703.jpg CM170201-14214404.jpg

Seriously, what do you think? Look, try this experiment. See it sticks to a magnet. If it does, it's not silver, because silver doesn't stick to a magnet.

It's magnetic so it's steel! NOW WHAT?

It plated to make it shine better. The plating is wearing off and you can see the natural copper of the coin underneath.

There is a very slight possibility that it was struck on a (Mint) planchet intended for some foreign coin. At one time, Philly serviced about twenty countries. There's lists somewhere.

I disagree because on the reverse you can see where the plating on this coin has peeled

    nope, it's likely correct.

    That's a 3.11g coin and .02g of plating

But it's magnetic, copper is not correct?

I would agree but most of the plating is off, the scale jumpejumped to 3.19, and again it's magnetic!

If the plating is magnetic, what will the coin do?

    It will be magnetic

Oh ok thanks, so the penny is copper and they electronically plated copper to it to make it shinny? Interesting

no, it was not copper plated, it was likely chrome plated or steel. Copper isn't magnetic either. :)

Replate it, the steel is coming off. Then offer it on eBay, at the low, low price of only $.10 a gram. It's a steal, at $31.90!

IMG_0682.JPG IMG_0681.JPG IMG_0680.JPG IMG_0679.JPG i have had this penny for awhile, I've always been curious about it. It does stick to a magnet. I couldn't weigh it because I don't have a scale it compares to that one.
