    Is the weight an error on the 1963 D nickel? The 1964 D nickel I weighed is 5.0 grams. image.jpeg image.jpeg image.jpeg image.jpeg

    Close enough - it's worn.

Ok. I just wasn't sure what the weight tolerance is.

not sure of the weight tolerance but a nickel is 5 grams, within reason for it to be below or higher than weight its probably more than a gram on Jefferson's.

Curious.. Do you weigh every single coin you look at?

Don't you have to weigh both sides of the coin?

No. I don't know why I decided to weigh that particular one. My husband brought it home in a pocket full of change last night and it just struck me weird. Sometimes that happens. The only ones I weigh regularly are the 1983 coins.

I have never heard of that before. That's interesting.

It may be very slightly out of spec. Tolerance on a nickel is +/- .19 grams So a nen nickel could weigh as little as 4.81 grams. You scale only shows a single decimal point so the coin could weigh as little as 4.76 grams or as much as 4.84 grams and still show 4.8 grams. So it could still be within spec.

Thank you for the information there. Maybe I will invest in a more accurate scale.

I have to admit, that was funny!! Luckily, I did not go weigh both sides LOL!!! My first thought was that it shouldn't matter what side you weigh it on. Lol. Maybe I should weigh you on both sides :blackeye: LOL!!! JK!!

I like to weigh rolls of cents before I open them... then I arrange them from heaviest to lightest and open them in order...
