1962 Jefferson nickle

    Most likely damage. As I don't think those marks can be made during minting.

    It looks like damage to me, too! There are thousands and thousands and thousands of ways that a coin can be damaged while in circulation.

    Why is Jefferson wearing a hat? Is that area raised, or just a stain?

    Looks like it was put into the rotating slot of one of those gumball machines. Maybe he was trying to tickle a nickle for a quarter.
