I have what looks like a normal 1960/68 D dime but turn it over and the back is gone. The side ridges/grooves are gone too. Looks like they were there at one point as there are slight indents all the way around near the face of the coin but they aren't deep enough to register when I run my mail along them. Is it worth anything or is it just a cool show piece?

Just damaged, somebody machined the reverse down.

It kinda looks like the back popped off not that it was ground down or anything...

It looks like someone used a lathe to cut down the field inside of the rim in the process of making a magician's coin.

Your dime is a 1960-D dime. It's silver so it may be worth a dollar but no more. To me it looks like this coin was made into a button (which is now broken off) or it was a pin at one time. Hard to tell but it's damaged so only worth melt value.
