    John Skelton Morgan man!

I bought this quarter at a coin club auction recently even though it has some issues. Basically I was filling a hole, with the idea I could do something to clean it up. What do you think I should do to it?

I'm thinking an acetone bath for a week and a distilled water rinse?

Yup, acetone for a day or two then water rinse. If still dark toning, hold the coin in hot/warm running water, remove and lightly swab dark area with a cotton swab dipped in eZest and then rinse and pat dry.

I think it is going to need a light dip using EZest. It looks to be a type B reverse. Nice find!

Does it matter then if I just rinse it with tap water or distilled? Or can I just use eZest on it?

Thanks. It was listed as MS60, but if I had seen it beforehand I probably would have passed on it due to the black discoloration. Yeah, I bought it blind, but it was only $5.50, so I didn't think I could go terribly wrong.

There have been discussions on here, but I am not totally convinced that distilled water is that much better than tap water in most parts of the country. Using distilled water, some prefer to let the coin drain and air dry and some prefer to pat the coin dry with a soft cloth (don't rub). With tap water, I think you are better off to blot it dry. I would rinse it before the eZest and then rinse off the eZest as soon as possible. Remember, you can always re-dip it, but you can never un-dip it.
