1959 ITALY .500 LIRA, SILVER COIN. WORTH MORE THAN MELT?

    12b.jpg 12c.jpg i bought this coin at melt value, is there much of a market for a coin like this beyond the silver value? i don't buy many foreign coins.

    1956-1966 Italy used this Queen Isabella Obv & Columbus Rev.In a MS-66+ grade is semi rare.This looks like an Au-58-MS-61 but still a Nice coin!:)!

    I should think so. They're not exceedingly common as far as I know, and the rendition of Columbus' ships is nicely done.

    Yes, I often see them in a pile/box offered at around melt. The coin is similar to a Franklin half dollar. It sells for melt in grades below UNC.

    Date is on outside rim.my Unc set were all minted elsewhere in Naples .
    I am not sure if they minted elsewhere ?

    Right, all coins of the Italian Republic (1946-today) were and are minted in Rome.
