Tomaska, Wexler, Heritage, and Breen, oh my! Reminds me of an old tale:

"Two scholars at Cambridge in England were arguing about the amount of teeth a horse has. One man quoted Aristotle, the other vehemently cited St. Augustine. A monk over-hearing the conversation interjected "There's a horse out back, why not count the number yourselves?" He was subsequently smote and stricken from the company of learned men."

Interesting to see the banter on this issue; unfortunately, being wholly ignorant of this subject, I can serve no use but contribute this irrelevant (though amusing, I think!) tale that reminds me of the circumstances present in this thread.

Consider me the errant monk... although I have no horse to offer :(

Yes indeed. The half had a shorter career with proof style circulation strikes (1958-1959) while the quarters ran from 1956 to 1964 not to mention 1969D-1972D.

It is interesting that the 1959 mint sets ended up with both the proof style quarter and half for Phildelphia.
