I am really getting sick of members starting a conversation and within 2 replies people get offended! I am not taking any sides but really why do you have to argue? It gets me frustrated and I'm sure other members agree with me. Just calm down and take a whole box of chill pills.
You're the last person who should be calling people stupid or an idiot. When you ask a question, you're not entitled to mandate how others should answer. You definitely have a reading comprehension problem. Once again, you have put words in the mouth of @rickmp . He never said it was worthless, but your cry-baby rant definitely is! Oh, I didn't realize that "a fairly accurate range" was an exacting means of measurement. I'll bet I could pick out 50 pennies out of a $50 bag that would be within tolerances, too. Big deal! You've never liked me? Can I help it if you have bad taste? Chris
That is 100% not within tolerance - worn or not. BTW, wear involves more moving metal than removing it. I cannot find a penny in my worn set (good?) that weighs less than 3.0 grams. Oh, and there used to be (maybe still is) a Chinese site that listed every Lincoln wheat counterfeit and worn. I would guess thin planchet.
Your responses in this thread are incredible numis. Really? I mean really? I don't have a dog in this fight but come on man. Do you live on a college campus or something?
Yes it has. I took a break from the forum a few months ago because of threads like this. Constant arguments, coin denomination bias, post a real variety and get a like or two, but post a coin that's been put through the wood chipper and get 25 pages, members that think way to highly of themselves, the list goes on and on. I decided to show back up a couple of days ago because a cherrypicked a BU 1961 type B reverse quarter. Within a couple of posts, a member pointed it out to me that I shouldn't have posted it here because it wasn't an error coin, it was a die variety. I knew this. It's actually a reverse design variety (RDV-002 per CONECA). Let me state that I have ZERO hard feelings toward this member as we talked privately and I honestly believe he was trying to educate other members about the variety. Seems like a very good guy! But still members here seem to have to prove they are smarter than you. Especially if you are talking about Lincolns. There are a few that seem to hate them and all the minor die varieties associated. That being said, this coin weighs 85.5% of normal weight. I understand you are untitled to your opinion, but there is a table on mint tolerances somewhere. I don't know the exact number, but I know beyond a shadow of a doubt it's not +/- 15%! I guarantee you if someone found a Morgan that weighed 22.86g vs 26.73g it would be the greatest find ever...but it isn't. It's that crappy little Lincoln cent! This forum used to educate people, not give half-assed, 100% inaccurate opinions. I'll say it again, this used to be my favorite forum. Not anymore. So, there's no need to reply to me as I won't see it. To all the truly helpful people that I've learned so much from, I'd like to thank you kindly! Most importantly, to numis rookie, I'd like to say NICE FIND! I've searched over 100,000 cents and my best is a 1941 weighing 2.69g. It's in a 2x2 labeled "rolled thin planchet". Happy searching all!!
Yeah Jay, I understand. Ive found some cool variety cents, like the 1994p DDR-001 and 2011P DDO-004 and the thread received a few likes. But if I mention to a new comer that the community term for a penny is cent, while doing so in a respectful manner, the thread turns into WW3 with someone now "boycotting" the word cent because he feels so strong about it calling it a penny. Thats fine. The fact is I come and go here also. I do have other interests but I also get tired of the bickering here.
Thank you! Like I said, I was excited to see it. I'm trying to find another forum to go to. Maybe I'm part of the problem but I constantly feel like people only comment on posts in ways to try and show they know everything. And ya sometimes that's what I need, but, most of the times its just people trying to burst someone's bubble. I asked if it was just a thin planchet. I figured I'd get a "yes and it happens" or "yes and it's a great find". Most of the time the responses I get are along the lines of "you shouldn't be excited....ever.....about any coin stuff because we've all seen it".
Part of the problem with growing up is losing that sense of childlike wonder at the world around you. It doesn't stop holding that wonder; we just stop looking at it that way. It's a shame.
That's odd. I don't recall reading posts like that. Are you hallucinating? So, who's the idiot? Chris PS. I think you still owe @rickmp a PUBLIC apology..............but I doubt it will ever happen.
Apparently ^ ...He doesn't owe anybody let alone rick anything. Rick screwed up with a false/wrong/incorrect opinion. Probably better if he didn't type about that which he didn't know. He offered a supposed fact as his opinion. Plenty of room for interpretations to be opinions but facts are facts and you can't just make up your own and rely on immunity by labeling it opinion. And what is with the lord of the flies gang voting best post for that wrongful dribble? Anybody who can still think should go vote for the response post and wipe that erroneous poopstain 'best' application off the internet. Unless this is a popularity contest and not a place that should be taken seriously.
