Could this have been placed in my inherited coin book (published in '58) at that time when it was new? There's not a scar, mark (except a double "D" mint mark), ding or dent in this Holy Grail. I can actually see his wavy hair, button hole on his lapel, and his eyelashes! THAT's detail! I've got double vision! Feedback?
I don't see a doubled die from your pictures. What I do see (at least, it looks like it in these pictures) is a trace of wear on the high points, and disturbance of luster in the fields. The coin was probably stashed not too long after it was minted - but it did circulate. As such, it is probably worth about 10 or 15 cents. I appreciate your enthusiasm, so don't let this discourage you. Different pictures may change my opinion.
Umm....the OP posted a '58-D, not a Philly. Nevertheless, I don't see any doubling or an RPM. Chris PS. Welcome to the neighborhood, Don!
The correct term is Doubled Die not Double.. quote "Note that the proper terminology for this occurrence includes the letter 'd' at the end of the first word, hence "doubled die". The term "double die" without the first word ending in 'd' is not proper numismatic terminology." closed quote I want to share this webpage with you - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Doubled_die And if you are talking about the mintmark it's not because of a Doubled Die.. it would be a Repunched Mintmark
You should really start your own unique thread. This thread is about a Doubled Die question. Quickly though.. all your Cents look normal with heavy circulation wear. The 1973 with the incused image of Kennedy is just a novelty item with no premium.
