1957 5 ptas coin

    Here is another coin I could use help on. It was in the same lot as the first one I posted. Again the same internet said it's good but I would trust t 20180610_213124.jpg 20180610_213135.jpg 20180610_213210.jpg he members more.

    It is very common coin. Maybe about 50 cents or 1 dollar.

    Back in those years, Spain used a "dual date" system. In this particular case, the "1957" is the authorization date while "58" indicates the 1958 production year.

    And "PTAS" is an abbreviation for "Pesetas".

    And now you know the secret of the "secret dates" on these. Always squint at the numbers hidden in those little six-pointed stars!

    Sometimes there were letters in the star, like "BA" for Barcelona, on some special issues. Those are worth more. I've found hundreds of these coins but haven't gotten a "BA" yet. I wonder if those were proofs. I forget.
