Hey y'all. I am brand new to the forum (this is my first post), so I apologize if a similar question has already been answered. Recently I have began expanding my collection with error coins. I have come across a 1955D Lincoln Wheat Cent that appears at first glance to be a wrong planchet. However, it appears to be a copper planchet, albeit oversized. I've tried to do some research on this particular type of error, but I have been unsuccessful thus far. Can anyone give me a tad bit of insight into this type of error. Thanks!
Not a wrong sized planchet. The larger planchet wound not fit into the coining Chamber. It looks like copper has been expanded around a cent and the would be damaged. PMD is what it looks like to me, Post Mint Damage. Welcome to CT.
Fake. No way that was made at the mint. That’s just don’t look right at all. It would not fit in the chamber also....
The weight is 4.78 grams and it does appear to be collared for whatever reason. Never would have thought of it! Luckily it was just given to me! Thanks everyone
