Did anyone else see this listing on Ebay?? Looks like die chips to me...? Sent them a note saying there was not a 55 S with a doubled die. Originally from Littleton Coin, wonder what they paid for it? http://www.ebay.com/itm/1955-S-DOUB...148518?hash=item4d4b8f0f26:g:CckAAOSwTA9X5Y2~
First, there is at least one known 55-S DDO. I'm certainly not saying this is it or that I like/agree with the seller's offering, but when one decides to stick their nose into someone else's business, with all due respect, they need to at the very least be sure they're providing accurate information based on the correct date. That said, it's just another sad and ridiculous eBay listing, and one of a near countless number placed every year. Unfortunate, yes, but if someone is so foolish as to drop $100 or more on a coin they know nothing about, they deserve just what they get and have no one to blame but themselves. This isn't the Wild West of hobbies where it's every man for themselves. There are plenty of widely available options for those who just have to be parted from their money, and do not care to learn, to do so with very reasonable security and safety.
