1955 LINCOLN CENT, VARIETY?

    this coin is not the doubled die obverse. though it does have some doubling. any thoughts? 05r.jpg 05s.jpg

    Any "doubling" you are seeing on this coin is from die deterioration. This was an old, worn out die. You can also see the heavy die cracks on Lincoln's head.

    When looking at these wheat cents from the 40's - 50's, you have to consider they over used the dies in that era. They had a lot of events that normally doesn't happen. But looking closer to all the devices on a BU coin, it shows what die wear looks like overall.

    This coin is a BU example. Note the die wear on all the devices along with die cracks. They squeezed every cent they could out of these dies.

    That's one very nice-looking coin. Those are cuds in the head, breaks. It's an interesting error on an attractive coin. What more can an error collector want? :)
