I found a NICE higher grade poor man DD and was looking through ebay sold listings and saw this. is it me? or does it look like someone sold the BIG one super cheap?
It looks like I'm looking at photos of 2 different coins, with the lighter colored photos looking off to me.
I think perhaps the fact that the seller identified it as a copy in the auction writeup had something to do with the price. http://www.ebay.com/itm/1955-P-Linc...D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2557
the light color photos are of the coin that sold on ebay for $10. the VERY clear photos are off coppercoins to use to compare to.
of course it is. I should have known better to look. pretty vague...."a copy" still mis-represented . good call though. I feel like such a dumb dumb :-(
The seller does not know these 2 important facts... #1 That is not what a Poor mans DD is. That one was caused by Die Deterioration #2 It's Doubled Die not a Double Die as in his title
Often when discussing the 1955 poor mans the term double die used to avoid calling it a doubled die which it isn't. Even better is to refer to it as a "double die", the quotes indicating that there is something off about the description. A doubled die is only a doubled die, a "double die" can mean who knows what. So calling it a 55 poormans doubled die would be to state that it IS a doubled die. Adding confusing when you then tell them it isn't. I know I'm not explaining myself well here.
It came through loud and clear, even though I personally find the notion to be in very poor taste and, intentional or not, extremely deceptive considering how many already fail to grasp there's any difference between doubled and double.
