For all those in doubt...... Look at the ear hole Look at the last 5 Look at the bowtie These are just a few spots and other problems have been mentioned.
I just don't like completely saying(No)I'm not an expertbut was basically convinced its fake from first sight.
Once the original Chinese fakes ( sold as MS) started becoming suspect, several makers started making them with circulated details (XF or so) and would even use a little cosmetic deposit of "grime". If they succeeded in 90% of sales, they were very happy ( the Chinese, not the dealers who bought). Jim
You say you don't remember what you paid for it. Do you remember its provenance ? How did you come by it? If you got it off the internet I would advise to go back to that web site in a week. And see if he don't have another one for sell. That may help determine the value. If there is another one for sale then try and pass yours off to a cashier. If it is phony ,and you get busted for passing it, you could always say you ran it past the members on coin talk. Seemed legit to me officer.
Well here are a couple from mine. From before the internet existed it was $400 , about 1/6th the price of my then 1 year car. Jim
Hey everyone thanks for helping me spot that fake coin! I wonder how many people you fools actually convince that their coins are fake.
Very very nice and I really hope it's true..... but I have a hard time believing it went to PCGS and came back in under 3 weeks... That's harder to believe then the coin being real
Oh, we're not fools. We're actually cunning, evil trolls whose sole joy in life is shattering people's dreams. At least, that's what the folks who post unconvincing fake coins tell us. Post a photo of the coin in its slab, at the same scale and lit the same way as your original photos, so we can see that a coin with those features actually made it into a TPG slab. You know, just to make bigger fools of us.
Yep, and it doesn't have the same mark by the left wheat ear. It seems the only fool here is @hooglandm
My Numismatic News on page 36 of 5 Apr 2022 has suggested retail in XF-40 for 1300.00, in MS65 would 12500.00 suggested retail. A close look at the post. I feel it's a fake also. Sorry. I hope you did not pay for it.
What happened to the mark on the reverse at 6 o'clock that you said was on the coin? I guess PCGS doctored or repaired that for you.
If your gonna troll the forum at least put a little effort into it. Next time try photoshopping your coin into a holder.
I paid for the expedited grading service and if its not the same coin then PCGS switched it on me. I have no reason to be making this up. I noticed that mark on the reverse was gone, it must have been just on the coin, I didn't try wiping it away.
I believe it's the same coin. What created this were the crap images used in the OP's first post. Poor images get poor answers. Lets all step back and learn from this situation.
The wear on the hair doesn’t match the wear elsewhere on the coin. Too many circulation hits for the wear and on the obverse in the word GOD there is green stuff. The IP has been a member for just over 10 years and only has 16 posts with 5 likes, yet he’s a new member. That’s one of those things that make you go huh?
I see things that look the same and I see things that don't. I agree the images for the OP's first post and the follow up photos aren't the best. I see the PCGS form and I have a hard time believing the OP went to all the trouble to just troll the forum. There are still red flags, there are 2 marks on the reverse that don't seem to be on the coin now. There is also a couple of small spots of corrosion on the obverse and what looks like a piece of white something. Not sure it would straight grade with corrosion and good chance the small piece of white stuff would have fallen off or been dusted off with compressed air by PCGS. There is also a remote chance PCGS screwed up and graded a non genuine coin. Before everyone gives me a hard time about that I can show you a photo of a 1909 S VDB that slipped passed them. Better photos would be needed to answer the questions any better. Without better photos the only thing I will say from this point is congratulations to the OP for getting his coin in a holder.
"I wonder how many people you fools actually convince that their coins are fake." If you would drop the attitude this could turn into a very fun & educational thread for all.
All of the true 1955 DDO have a reverse that is not lined up correctly. I believe it's a 15% rotation. So this is the first thing to check is if it lines up correctly. If it does it is 100% fake.
