I visited a small coin shop (first time visit) this weekend and bought this 1953 proof set. It was pretty much an impulse buy. I already had a couple 1953 proof sets including a nicely toned one. However, this weekend the price was right & the coins were pretty.

The silver coins in this new set have toned only on the obverse & they have bright-white reverses. The half dollar obverse is toning light blue & purple at about 10:00 and gradually goes to bright white at 4:00. I don’t know how long these coins have been inside the Capital plastic holder.

I’m sure that everyone at CT that looks at these toned proof coins is asking themselves if this is NT or AT. I already had a couple 1953 proof sets including a nicely toned one. However, this weekend the price was right & the coins were pretty. The silver coins in this new set have toned only on the obverse & they have bright-white reverses. The nickel & cent appear to be bright on both sides. It should be apparent in the photos that the dime obverse has taken a blue color. The quarter obverse is mostly a Champaign yellow. What’s your opinion? Thanks for letting me share. Very best regards, collect89
