Here is another one that has me puzzled.
This coin in hand looks pretty nice, but under very high magnification I can see many hairlines. The hairlines are in the fields, but not on the devices. I am thinking this is another case of die polish (or whatever you want to call it). Does anyone have any experience with this coin?

Are the hairlines raised or below the surface of the coin?

I cant really tell, but they seem to go all the way to the devices and stop.
Sorry my pics don't really show the magnitude of what I'm seeing.
The hairlines are microscopic, and pretty much cover all the fields. obverse & reverse.
Its like someone removed the devices, scrubbed it with an sos pad, and the replaced them.

I only have a 1954 P/L 5 Shillings...but the surfaces are mirrored with no hairlines. Just being honest, without better photos I feel like any opinion I offer would be a guess.

    Here's my guess:

In the first photo, I'd guess that it's a die polish line (the one prominent line I can see.)

In the second photo, it's too blurry to make anything out.

In the third photo, the way it's reflecting the light makes me think that they are hairline scratches and/or polish marks from a cleaning. This could be in addition to the die polish marks, or in substitution...just hard to tell.

I did find this pic... This coin was graded a 63 by NGC.
It looks very similar to mine.
