Somehow, the 'camera gear mounted to the table' may indicate grandpa already has you the ideal setup for the T5 and you just don't know it yet. Maybe, likely.

Did he have a computer and have you searched his image files?

Ya never know, he may already have an impressive photo inventory for you and left you a game of find the DD's.

Good call, I have to charge up the battery and do some practicing. The camera gear that is mounted is from the microscope, not anything related to the coins. He passed away in the early 90s so my grandmother has been the one holding onto the monocular. We lived with her up until a year ago when we moved so the pennies hadn't been touched in over 20 years. When we were moving out she had me hold onto them since she didn't want to deal with hauling them out. When she was packing things up she stumbled on his bookkeeping stuff and the monocular so she gave me them. Thats how I've started to get into all this.

To jump around a bit, I took a closer look at the lamination error on the original post and theres more going on than I originally thought. I think you were right about it being a possible Doubled die because I compared it to some DDO references and they seemed to match up. A few other things jumped out at me as well though that made it seem even more interesting.

Under the M in UNUM on the reverse, it looks like there may be another full but faint M, if not a few in the same area. Its only noticeable with light hitting at certain angles so it was hard to get a good photo of it.

Then also it appears that there is other markings/lettering underneath E PLURIBUS UNUM that I couldn't quite make out... I can't completely tell but it looks like there are numbers underneath the E PLURIBUS, and a the outline of something running down the inner side of the left wheat between the O and C of One Cent. Again, not sure my photos will do much to show this.

From the Left wheat to the O in OF there is a raised even line that looks like it connects to something running through UNITED

Hopefully the photos will show at least a little of what I'm describing... It shows when there is a strong glare on it, but couldn't seem to get a good shot. Would it be possible for this to be some kind of planchet error? The marks look too cohesive to be some sort of PMD I think

If I recall correctly, and I didn't go back and look, this one's C had a reverse marker for a DDO, not sure and you certainly clipped it. Looks heavily worn die and lots of lamination wanting to peel off.

I like it when I can find them with a huge chunk that will peel off and put both the coin and the big piece of laminate in a two hole flip.

The canon will make your life easier. One pic of the reverse would most likely take the place of your eight iphone images, which are very good through the nice quality loupe.

    Update:
I was able to find the camera setup I was talking about before... Here are a few pictures. I figured out that it currently doesn't have a lens, because it was used specifically with the B&L microscope I posted before. I was able to get it to work slightly by lining it up with the Swift Monocular and displayed on my TV screen. I think I would need to get some kind of C-mount macro lens for it to work properly, however Im not sure it would be worth it based on the quality limitations?

After fooling around with this setup, I switched out the old camera with my Canon, but with the lens I have I wasn't able to capture any good close up images. The only way I got anywhere near the quality I'd need was by setting up a magnifier above the coin, and even then the quality wasn't very good.

Im thinking of holding onto the table/arm/fixture and selling the older CV camera+microscope to try and get the proper lens, but not sure its worth it if I can just get better shots from my iPhone+loupe?

That's actually pretty awesome displayed on that large flat panel.

I do reject the notion that the Rebel won't do better than your cell.

That table and articulated boom rocks.

I'd breed you out of it if given a chance.
