I just was sorting through some wheat pennies and found this coin. Is this a common or known die error? Does it have value in a g-F grade coin?
    Thanks for any help. I am a very amateur coin collector. 1951 D second.jpg 1951 D.jpg
This is my first post and kinda cool to have access to the knowledge.

It doesn't appear to be an error, its post mint damage (PMD) it looks like someone or something just smacked the date and smooshed the numbers. And also :welcome:

It's normal. In 1951 the Mint Mark was hand punched into the Obverse die and sometimes it ended up near the date.

I have a coin almost exactly like that. Not sure it is post mint. Mine is in fine condition and the 5 is extra fat. Like really fat. I'll see if I can post a picture

It more like good condition. Been a while since I looked at it. I kept bc I wasnt sure if it was an error or not.

Your's is a die chip (a small piece broken off the die. They are cool but not rare, some add value, but few.

I have many. I actually just save them for the copper should the need arise. What is the error? Is it double stamp and mirroring? Like two wheats or two Lincolns?

I know the mint mark filled in as normal, but what about the number?5 in 1951 being filled in partially? it almost appears like the five was punched over something. Or maybe I’m seeing some thing that’s not there but if you have any knowledge of it, I’d appreciate it and I apologize for losing in on your conversation

    Simple. It's a Die Chip.
    Worn Die issue.
