I'm trying out my new toy---a QX5 (thanks Rickie)...and one of the first shots I took was of a 1959-D nickel that had been changed to make it into a 1950.

While this is pretty bold, and wouldn't fool most collectors, I can see how a new person, looking for a deal, would be sold this as the real deal!

Is the 9 partially filled or do you think someone modified this coin?

It was modified by someone. (the tail of the 9 was removed.) The 0 is quite abit smaller, that it should be, and you can also see tool marks on it in that area. Someone took a knife or something and put a big X on the coin as well :(

Just so disgusting. Where did you find it?

That's hilarious. I never even thought of it. I can't imagine anyone but the greenest amateur being fooled such such nonsense.

Jason, they are out there. I pulled this one out of circulation back in the late 70's.

I bought it from my dealer--can't remember what I paid but I think it was something like $3.

I actually want one now. I've never come across one to my knowledge, but I'll have to be on the lookout.
