1949 FBL Franklins

The seller have a couple of other high grade Franklin half dollars, maybe he is selling his registry coins.

I will let you know what happens.The seller has sold many high end Frankilns in the past 66s 67s ,FBLs in this price range.
I am not that concerend as of yet and would do it again at this point.Its a risk I'm am willing to take .

 

Yes my new 1/2 arrived today I think it looks great- Slightly mint set type toning MS65 FBL 1949-D at a fair price
So all is well no worries with this seller ,and now I have a hard to find coin that I have wanted for some time.
It is the same coin as in the picture and Looks better in hand.

 

Since it "looks better in hand", could you provide your own pictures of the coin?

As Doug stated, and he is 100% correct, the 49D is harder to find in a MS65 with an FBL on it than the 49S.

 

Hard to tell anything from those pics as your flash is obscuring the key focal points of the coin, i.e. the bell lines.

 

That's the best I can do right now its only a phone. I was trying to show that it looked better in hand as the sellers pictures are dark and dull .The coin has a light golden brown mint set toned look to it.I will sometime later post better pictures God willing.
But I can tell you that the all bell line are impressive, as is the coin.No real hits on the face, hair or fields and the bell has some hits but looks good to me.The lettering on the bell look good and you can clearly see STOW.
....I would like to buy a camera that would also pick up the FT/FB on roosevelt's too .

 

I wonder if that is because of a lower mintage, or if the 49D typically had a weaker strike. Or both.

 

One thing I found was that NGC has rated MS65 not FBL 1949-D only 100 but on the49-S its 932 maybe that why ?

 

It's possible a weak strike comes into play, but it may also be the TPGs have tightened their standards on the FBL over the years, even though they both are completely different on what constitutes an FBL Franklin. One looks at both sets of the bell lines and says both must be distinct and full across the bottom, and the other only looks at one set of the lines.
