Hey guys, I found this '48 wheat cent while going through some rolls and was not sure what exactly was happening on the reverse. The two areas at each end are raised slightly, but look as if they are peeling off the coin, and I have not seen this before personally. Is it PMD or something else? Thanks!
It's a cool example. To an error collector, maybe a buck three-eighty, somewhere around there? I'm not an expert.
Cool! Neither am I but thanks for the answer! Planning on holding onto it, I enjoy collecting error coins.
We like to hear that. It means you're on the right track. And this is a good start. It's what we'd call a "beauty," as far as these types of errors go.
A Die Crack is a crack on the Die.. so when the Die Strikes the blank planchet the metal from the planchet will flow into the crack and appear raised on the coin. That is considered a Striking error. A lamination is a planchet flaw which is what the Cent in question has. Not a striking issue. That is the difference.
