    Hello CT.
I need some help here. I've done some research but am coming up empty. I checked NGC Variety Plus, PCGS Varieties and Variety Vista but they have nothing on this coin. I have this 1948 Quarter that appears to have a die crack across Washington's head. It starts just below the hairline and extends to the back of the head. It does not run into either field. It is raised above the surface of the coin is why I think it's a die crack. Also there seems to be some doubling in "IN GOD...TRUST" but I think it's likely just MD. It's a very nice coin for it's age so I'm considering sending it in. I feel it would grade above 65. I've provided close-up photos of the suspect area, plus the Obv/Rev. Opinions please. Thx in advance.

I often see cracks that run along the top of the head, but not through it...nice. It's an attractive coin, but maybe too many dings for and elevated grade. Still, a beautiful coin!

Yeah, I see a lot with cracks down the Eagle's right wing but not across the head like that. Cool...:)

It looks to be a lustrous one. That's just strike doubling in the motto borrowing from the letters a tad and fanning out. For those inquiring I've a Roosevelt dime with the top of his taken off very similar to this but extending into the field. As I recall, it's a deeper crack, too. FWIW...

You're not going to find anything in variety listings because it is considered an error, and a minor error at that. If you decide to submit it for grading, don't waste your money paying for attribution service.

Thanks. Finally getting better at it with my microscope. Took some time and a taller mount.

Thanks for the advice. I'll do some research under errors.

You won't find anything under Errors from NGC or PCGS, either. The category is way too expansive for them to list each and every one.
